basis, for more than three hours per day be regulated. Child care programs and providers must meet New York State's minimum
requirements for health, safety, nutrition and programming.

Thoroughly explore your child care options before making your choice. Interview and
visit several providers. Check references. The following checklist can assist you in asking some important questions.

- Is the program authorized by NYS to provide care?
- Is the setting safe, healthy, clean?
- Are toys safe and age appropriate?
- Are medicines, cleaning products and other poisonous substances locked away?
- Is the provider/teacher warm and friendly and responsive to children's
needs?
- What training or workshops has the provider/teacher had?
- Is the program age appropriate with varied activities?
- Are nutritious meals and snacks served?
- Are parents welcome any time?
- Are you comfortable talking with the provider/teacher?
- Do the hours of operation meet your needs?
- What are the options when your child is sick?
- What if the provider/teacher is sick?
- Does the situation feel right to you?
