As a child care provider, you play a critical role in protecting the health and safety of the children in your program. In 2019, New York Public Health Law Section 2500-h was amended to codify “Elijah’s Law”. The Law is named after 3-year-old Elijah Silvera From New York City, who was given a grilled cheese sandwich while at day care, despite having a known severe dairy allergy.
This training will focus on developing a deep understanding of the regulations regarding anaphylaxis, allergies, and your plan if a serious incident happens within your child care program.
Before discussing anaphylaxis, we will review food safety, family-style dining, and how to include children in meal-prepping time. We will develop an understanding of what it means to have a balanced meal, how to get kids involved, and how attachment relationships are affected by best practices regarding food.
OCFS training topic areas: (2) Nutrition and health needs of infant and children (7) Statutes and regulations pertaining to child care
